Pão de Açúcar – Sugarloaf Mountain - All year round

Rio’s iconic Sugarloaf ‘Pão de Açúcar‘ can indeed be climbed by many different routes. This programme is destined to rock climbers with basic climbing skills who are willing to have fun in rio. From single to multiple pitches, from easy to hard routes, we can adapt to your skills. If you don’t actually know how to climb, you might want to try our climbing course in Rio.

Unless you already have something in mind, our rock climbing specialist in Rio will soon figure out what sort of route you should aim for. We usually take our rock climbing clients for short trial climbs to then decide what sort of climb you should take.

These are some of our route suggestions:

  • Via dos Italianos (Italian’s route): 5º V+ 260m – This is the most classic route, requires basic/intermediate skills
  • Chaminé Stop (Stop chimney): 4 IV + 240m – Original route on Sugarloaf’s first ascent, requires basic climbing skills

Requirements for joining programme are:

  • Will to have fun;
  • Basic rock climbing experience;
  • Good health and physical prepared;
  • Fill the booking and medical form;
  • Read all the information available in this website.

Itinerary

Pão de Açúcar – Sugarloaf Mountain - 1 day activity

Our climbs can last between 2 to 10 hours depending upon your choices and skills. We’ll meet at Praia Vermelha, Urca, Rio de Janeiro.

Rock climbing guide

Climber and mountaineer for over 25 years, Alex began climbing and mountaineering in 1990. A man of few words, Alex Ribeiro is a rock climbing reference in Brazil. He's the author of 2 climbing books, "Dividir and Conquistar" (To Share and To Conquer, 2000) and "Manual de abertura de vias" (Route Opening Manual, 2013). Additionally, he has written dozens of articles for magazines, websites, and newspapers.

Conqueror of over 200 climbing routes in several Brazilian states, some of his routes are amongst the largest climbing routes in Brazil. He's also an Industrial Rope Access Supervisor and is a certified rescuer in height and confined spaces.
