Aconcagua Expedition Update – New Year’s Eve at 5,630m

Blog | No comments

December 31, 2020 / January 2021 Season

As we ring in the New Year, our Aconcagua expedition team is holding strong at 5,630 meters, facing winds up to 75 km/h. While all other expeditions have descended back to base camp, our team remains up high, acclimatized, and fully committed.

The plan? Hold this altitude through the storm, and attempt the summit on January 3rd, when a break in the weather is expected.

🌬️ Waiting for the Window

Tomorrow (January 1st) promises to bring even stronger winds, but the forecast shows a potential drop to 30 km/h winds by January 2nd, opening a possible weather window for a summit push.

Despite the challenging conditions, the team remains determined and in excellent condition, both physically and mentally. Their acclimatization has been progressing smoothly, and morale remains high as we enter a new year from the heights of the Andes.

💪 The Spirit of the Mountain

Staying at this altitude for multiple nights in high winds is not easy — but it’s a part of what makes climbing Aconcagua so special. It’s not just about physical strength, but also patience, resilience, and good strategy.

Our current position gives us a solid advantage to launch a summit attempt as soon as the conditions allow.
